This enjoyable and lyrical read by Louisa Deasey is about what happens when a city girl abandons her comfortable urban life to hit the road with the man she loves. The novel is both light-hearted and serious, examining the tension in even the most loved-up couples when there is a lack of personal space and, indeed, any time apart from each other. I also enjoyed the author’s observations on the perceptions of country people of city people, the working class towards the middle class, and Western Australia’s isolation from the Eastern states. Full of quirky characters and great visuals, it kept me turning the pages. It’s also a very romantic book, without being cloying. If you want to get the feel of a road trip without leaving home, this book is for you. Recommended reading.
